Ann Kidd or Bell (d. 1877)
Ann Kidd or Bell (d.1877) was the daughter of Patrick Kidd, a farmer at Balgray near Dundee, and the wife of James Bell, who also farmed at Balgray. In her will, she instructed her trustees to pay the University of St Andrews £1,000 to create a Scholarship in memory of her father. In 1877, the Patrick Kidd Scholarship was created. Betsy Byers, Ann Bell’s sister, mimicked Ann by creating the William Byers Scholarship at the University of St Andrews in memory of her husband.
