Walter Forrester (d.1880/7?)
Walter Forrester was the son of George Forrester, a resident of Dysart, and Jane Foreman. Between 1824 and 1825, he was a student of the United College, University of St Andrews, and between 1825 and 1826, he was a student of St Mary’s College.
He died on 1 February 1880 in Cannes, France, but resided in Douglas on the Isle of Man. It is not clear precisely when Forrester relocated to the Isle of Man, but a record of birth for his daughter, Agnes, shows that he was living there by 1830. Upon his retirement, local newspaper Isle of Man Times, Saturday 20 May 1876, identifies Forrester as being the ‘late Principal of the Athol Academy, Crescent’.
He founded the Forrester Prize in Chemistry at the University of St Andrews. in 1887.
