Robert Wemyss Bursary
The Robert Wemyss Bursary was established in 1861 as a result of a bequest from Amy Wemyss (née Beanland (c.1786/91-1861). The Fifeshire Journal reported that her bequest of 6,000 Indian rupees was ‘for the foundation of a bursary of the annual value of £25 sterling, to be attached to Divinity Hall of the University of St Andrews’ in memory of her husband. The terms and conditions of the bursary were to be decided by the Principal and professors of St Mary’s College. The funds appear to have been invested in land. The bursary fund remains active.
