Students of Thomas Duncan

In 1858, a public subscription raised funds for a Testimonial Fund and Mathematical Prize in memory of the late Thomas Duncan (c.1777-1858), who had been Professor of Mathematics at the University of St Andrews from 1820. The fund was linked with ‘former pupils of Professor thomas Duncan’, but we do not know who organised the fund, nor who contributed to it. Student reminiscences in the University archives suggest that Duncan was much-loved by his students.
