Shairp Memorial Fund
The Shairp Memorial Fund was established in 1885 in memory of John Campbell Shairp, Principal of the United College at the University of St Andrews. The fund raised £466 16 s 5d by subscription. Around 180 persons contributed to commissioning a portrait for United College and a window for the College Church. Both items featured themes from 2 Peter i:5-7 – faith, virtue, knowledge. Both items were completed and presented in December 1886, and they remain within the University’s holdings.
The memorial window, by Henry Holiday, is in the first bay to the east of the south door in St Salvator’s Chapel.
